QUILTERS

Book by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek

Music and Lyrics by Barbara Damashek

Based on the book, "The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art" by Patricia Cooper Baker and Norma Bradley Allen

In the American West, a pioneer woman, Sarah, and six women face frontier life. The musical is presented as a series of short tales and tableaux matched with musical numbers, much like the blocks of a quilt, each presenting an aspect of frontier life or womanhood. The patches or blocks show "girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood, twisters, fire, illness and death. The patches are ultimately put together to form one dramatic tableau.

Destany says, "This is my first production after a four year hiatus from the stage.  I'm so excited that this beautiful story gets to play a role in my return to the theatre.  Love and thanks to the Drake family and my Crosswinds Church family."

MJ Farris

MJ just graduated to a Master Arts Theatre Marquee show after appearing in our Youth Summer production of THE MAGICIAN'S NEPHEW.  She has performed numerous productions at Wyoming High School under the direction of Jeremy Schnotala.   MJ loves the people!  "My fellow cast members care about me so much, and it's so meaningful, especially considering I'm the youngest and have a lot of health issues, but no one minds.  I get to tell stories, and they support me and my learning process."  MJ wishes to say to you, "Don't give up what you love.  Tell the stories you want to tell and be grateful for the opportunities you get.  I wouldn't have gotten this far if I wasn't."

Nina Howerton

Nina has been a long time fixture here at Master Arts, having appeared in numerous productions including Yenta in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, Mrs. Drysdale in THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES, and Mrs. Bailey in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.  Nina has enjoyed wonking on the challenging and wonderful music, and the opportunity to play so many parts. "I'm doing this show, which I've done twice before at Master Arts, as part of a tribute to Pris McDonald, who was a fabulous director, a kind and loving woman and an example of what a Christian should be."

Kate Howerton

Daryl Waggoner

Daryl has extensive experience on stage and has performed in SOUND OF MUSIC, QUILTERS, ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, TWO BY TWO, THE CEMETARY CLUB, GUYS AND DOLLS, THE BELLS ARE RINGING and many more.  She enjoys how the stories of the play are told through the quilt squares and characters, and reuniting with old cast members and meeting new ones. "This is the third time I have had the priviledge of portraying Sarah in QUILTERS here at Master Arts.  It is special to be a part of Pris' Legacy Season, as she directed me the last two times I was in it."

Pam White

Pam is no stranger to playing roles on the Master Arts stage, having appeared as Mrs. Graves in ENCHANTED APRIL, Marilla in ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, Maria in MAN OF LA MANCHA, Rose in THE CHRISTMAS SCHOONER and many many more.  Pam wishes to give thanks to God, thanks to her husband and family for all their support, and thanks to Master Arts for this opportunity.
